Granny has crossed 540 million downloads since 2017, yet the goal never changes: escape a locked house in five days while an old woman with a baseball bat hears every sound you make.

Granny is a first-person survival horror game from DVloper (Dennis Vukanovic), the Swedish solo developer behind the Slendrina series, currently on version 1.8.10 for Android. You wake up trapped in a two-story house with a basement and a sewer below, and you have five in-game days to get out. Granny patrols every room, hears dropped items and slammed doors, and knocks you out with her bat if she catches you. The hook is the puzzle loop: find keys and tools scattered in random spots, stay quiet, and escape through either the front door or the car in the garage. It runs fully offline and works on Android 6.0 and up.

The five-day timer and what one mistake actually costs you

You do not lose Granny in a single hit. You lose a day. Each time she catches you and swings the bat, the screen cuts to black and you wake up the next morning, down one of your five attempts, with every item still where you dropped it. That single rule shapes the whole game: progress carries over between days, so a “death” is really a time penalty, not a reset.

This is why most players treat days one and two as scouting runs. You map where items spawned this round, stash useful finds in one safe spot, and accept getting caught while you learn the layout. The pressure spikes on day five, the last attempt, where getting hit means starting the entire house from scratch. Players who feel underprepared often restart the run early rather than gamble the final day. The randomized item locations mean no two runs play out the same, which is the core reason people replay a free game that has been out since 2017.

How Granny hunts: line of sight, hearing, and the noise system

Granny’s threat comes from two senses working against you, and learning their limits is the difference between escaping and burning a day. She cannot see through walls or closed doors, so rounding a corner or shutting a door breaks her line of sight and makes her lose track of you. Her hearing is the real danger: she reacts to dropped objects, opened doors, and creaky floorboards from across the house and walks straight to the exact spot the sound came from.

You counter this with three tools the game hands you:

  • Crouch: moving crouched cuts the noise your footsteps make, letting you cross creaky floors without summoning her.
  • Hiding spots: wardrobes and the space under beds let you wait out a chase until her footsteps fade.
  • Deliberate distraction: drop or throw an item far from your real objective, wait near a hiding spot, and she investigates the noise while you slip past in the opposite direction.

Carpets matter too. Dropping items on carpet keeps things quiet, while the same item on bare floor rings out. There are also bear traps that start spawning randomly after day two and appear more often on the harder modes, so the floor itself becomes a hazard on top of Granny’s patrols.

Every key and tool you need to unlock the front door

The front door is the original escape route and the hardest, because with “Extra Locks” enabled it carries seven separate locks, each demanding its own item. Every item spawns in a random location each run, and you can only hold one at a time, which forces constant trips back and forth while Granny hunts you.

The full front-door checklist:

  • Hammer: pries off the wooden plank nailed across the door. Often hidden in the car trunk, which means you may need the Car Key first.
  • Cutting Pliers: snips the wire locks. You need them twice, since one wire lock sits on the door and another is inside a panel in the basement.
  • Screwdriver: opens a panel in the backyard to pull a hidden lever that releases the metal lock at the top of the door.
  • Padlock Code: the number combination for the dial padlock, found written somewhere in the house.
  • Padlock Key: opens the standard padlock and is also needed for the garage door on the car route.
  • Battery: slots into the battery lock, a separate item from the heavy Car Battery.
  • Master Key: the final piece, opens the lock on the door handle once everything else is cleared. It is useless on the car route.

The smart play is to gather and stash items at one central point, then clear all locks in a single burst on the last stretch so you are exposed at the door for as little time as possible.

The car escape: seven parts, the garage, and the sauna trick

The car was added in patch 1.5 as a second way out, and it stays available on every difficulty including Extreme, where the front door is locked off entirely. Building the car needs seven items regardless of difficulty, so it trades the front door’s lock puzzle for a parts-assembly puzzle in the basement garage.

What the car demands:

  • Gasoline Can: fills the tank at the back. This route dies if you blow up the can with the Shotgun before fueling, so handle it carefully.
  • Engine Part: goes under the hood at the front of the car.
  • Wrench: screws the engine in, used on six separate screws.
  • Spark Plug: also installs under the hood, usually found in the basement.
  • Car Battery: the heavy battery that powers the car, commonly locked in the basement safe or the sewer cell.
  • Car Key: opens the trunk for loot and starts the engine.
  • Padlock Key: opens the garage door so the car can actually leave.

The recurring tactic players rely on here is the sauna trick: lure Granny in, trap or knock her out, then sprint to install parts during the window she is down. That window shrinks brutally on Extreme, where a knockout lasts only about 15 seconds, so on the hardest setting you often have to knock her out twice to finish a single step.

Four difficulty modes plus Practice, and how each one changes the house

Difficulty in Granny is not a single slider for Granny’s speed. It rewires the light level, the noise your footsteps make, the number of door locks, and which enemies appear. Picking the wrong mode early is the fastest way to bounce off the game.

  • Easy: Granny walks noticeably slower, floorboards barely squeak, fewer locks block the door, and the basement Spider and the Crow are absent. This is the mode for learning the layout.
  • Normal: the classic experience with standard Granny speed and normal sound levels, the baseline most guides assume.
  • Hard: Granny moves fast, more locks appear, and bear traps show up more often.
  • Extreme: the house turns much darker, Granny can outrun you, knockouts last only seconds, and the front-door escape is disabled, forcing the car route.

On top of these sits the optional Extra Locks setting, which forces all seven front-door locks regardless of which difficulty you picked. Practice Mode is separate again: Granny is removed from the house entirely so you can walk every room and memorize item spots with zero danger, and as of a late 2025 update the large basement spider is also gone during Practice.

What’s new in Granny version 1.8.10

Version 1.8.10 landed on May 11, 2026 for Android, a maintenance update focused on achievements and closing long-standing exploits rather than adding rooms. The headline changes pulled from the official changelog:

  • Google Play achievements added: the game now ships with 16 achievements, making Granny the second DVloper title to receive an achievement system.
  • Spider freeze glitch fixed: the old trick of freezing the basement spider no longer holds. The spider now unfreezes itself within a few seconds and will either send you to the next day or trigger game over if it catches you on the final day.
  • Speedy crawl/crouch glitch removed: the exploit that let players move abnormally fast while crouching has been patched out.
  • Double creaking floors fixed: an oversight that caused certain floors to creak twice has been corrected, tightening the noise system.

The two updates just before this one brought a Christmas theme on December 1, 2025 and made Limping On/Off a menu option in early November 2025, so the recent run of patches has leaned on seasonal themes and quality-of-life cleanup.

Granny MOD APK features

This MOD strips out the death penalty and the item-hunting friction that define the stock game, aimed at players who want to roam the full house, learn where everything spawns, and reach either escape without burning days or restarting on Extreme. It turns a punishing trial-and-error horror puzzle into a free-roam version where the five-day clock and Granny’s bat stop mattering.

God Mode (Invincible)

Granny’s bat normally ends your day on contact and costs you one of your five attempts. With God Mode on, her swing does nothing: she can corner you in a hallway or catch you mid-puzzle and you keep moving without losing the day or resetting progress. This is the feature players use to walk the two-story house, basement, and sewer freely and memorize where the Car Battery, Master Key, and other randomized items spawned this run, something the stock game punishes you for attempting.

Stop Granny / Freeze Granny

Where the stock game gives you only a 15-second knockout window on Extreme, forcing the double-knockout sauna trick to install a single car part, this option holds Granny in place indefinitely. You can screw in all six engine bolts with the Wrench, fit the Spark Plug and Engine Part, and fuel the tank in one uninterrupted trip instead of racing her shrinking stun timer. It effectively removes the time pressure that makes the car route on Hard and Extreme so demanding.

All Items and Tools Unlocked

Instead of searching random drawers, safes, and the crow cage for the seven car parts or the seven front-door keys, the full toolset is available from the start. The Hammer, Cutting Pliers, Master Key, Car Key, and the rest are on hand immediately, so you can test both escape routes back to back without the one-item-at-a-time inventory limit dictating dozens of trips across the house. Useful for players who want to see both the front-door and car endings in a single sitting.

MOD Menu

The MOD menu collects the toggles in one in-game panel so you can switch options mid-run rather than committing before you start. Players use it to flip God Mode on while scouting, then off for a fair final-day attempt, or to enable Stop Granny only for the car-assembly stretch. It also bundles the difficulty unlocks, putting Practice, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme all on the menu instead of behind progression.

No Ads

The stock game shows advertisements after a caught day and on the menu screen, which interrupts the tense pacing right when you have just lost an attempt. The MOD removes every ad, so the loop from getting knocked out to waking up on the next day stays unbroken with no banner or video break in between.

The table below sums up the core differences between the stock Granny build and the MOD, so you can see exactly what changes before you decide which version fits how you want to play.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Granny MOD APK safe to use?

The MOD is a modified build, so it does not install through Google Play and needs “unknown sources” enabled on your device. It runs without root. Because it changes core game files, treat it as separate from your stock install and back up anything important before installing.

Will the MOD get my account banned?

Granny is a single-player offline game with no central servers ranking players, so there is no online progression to flag. Note, however, that the 1.8.10 update added Google Play achievements, so signing into a Google account on a modded build with God Mode active could log unintended achievement progress.

How is the MOD different from the stock APK?

The stock version makes you survive five days, hunt randomized items one at a time, and lose a day every time Granny’s bat connects. The MOD adds God Mode so hits do nothing, a Stop Granny freeze that removes the 15-second Extreme knockout limit, all seven car parts and door keys unlocked, and no ads.

Does Granny work offline?

Yes. Granny is listed as an offline single-player game and needs no internet connection to play. You can run the full five-day escape, both the front-door and car routes, and every difficulty mode with no network, which is why it is a common pick for travel and no-wifi moments.

What are the device requirements for Granny 1.8.10?

Version 1.8.10 requires Android 6.0 or higher, with a download size of roughly 180 to 200 MB depending on source. The Play listing recommends keeping an extra 100 to 500 MB free for updates and cache, so around 300 MB of free space gives a smooth install.
